For an adequate assessment of the motor system we must know that there is a hierarchy of prerequisites, necessary to be able to evaluate the successive levels of complexity of the motor system, particularly in children.

  • Assessment of motor development. The first step is to adequately focus on the chronobiology of motor development and its proportion and adequacy to general development.
  • Assessment of muscle tone.
  • Assessment of the pyramidal system.
  • Assessment of the cerebellar system.
  • Assessment of the extrapyramidal system (base ganglia).
  • Assessment of voluntary (cortical) motor skills. Motor planning and goal-directed motor skills (task-oriented).
