1. Referral criteria.
This concept includes all children over 6 years of age referred directly by the school or who come at the initiative of their parents after being informed by the school of a problem that occurs in this environment.
- Preferential Referral: It refers to cases where there is developmental regression or loss of previously acquired cognitive skills.
- Ordinary Referral: It includes poor academic performance, attention problems such as ADHD, borderline intellectual capacity or intellectual disability. It is also considered when there are behavioral problems in the school environment related to excessive impulsiveness (ADHD), meeting the following requirements: observable in multiple contexts (family and school), the family desires pharmacological intervention, and they do not present added psychiatric comorbidity that makes their evaluation in USMIA recommended for comprehensive care.
- NOT indicated referral: It refers to behavioral problems secondary to coexistence conflicts, bullying, emotional or family problems, and behavioral problems derived from abusive behaviors (both new technologies and substances). It is also considered when the patient is actively monitored by another service for the same reason for consultation (USMIA), and there is no additional neurological comorbidity that justifies the need for specific care in pediatric neurology.
2. Minimum data of the interconsultation:
For an effective consultation, it is important to have the following information on hand:
- Socio-psychological-pedagogical report issued by the school counselor, which includes quantitative information regarding the reason for referral (standardized ADHD questionnaires, individualized intelligence assessment, etc.). It must be attached to Abucasis in "external documents", for review before the appointment. Families systematically forget to bring the report to the consultation, because they assume that the computer system allows it to be consulted on site by digital means, and they have usually already provided it in the primary care consultation.
- Family history of neurodevelopmental disorders, consanguinity.
- Family structure, socioeconomic situation and coexistence dynamics.
- Family language, if it is different from the vehicular language of the school.
- Development history.
- School history (current school support, repetition, changes of center and reasons why it has been necessary).
- Ophthalmological evaluation.
- Analysis with iron metabolism (not necessary if you have one in the last year).
